Why notorious Notch Peak became JUMP’s first JUMP Site

Lorem

Describing Notch Peak as notorious may be a bit of an understatement.

Located on Sawtooth Mountain just outside of Delta, Utah, you’ll find Notch Peak reaching 9,658 feet into the west desert’s endless blue sky. The summit rises over 4,000 feet above the desert floor, and the north face features 2,200 feet of vertical rise.

Notch Peak boasts the second tallest pure vertical drop in the United States (El Capitan scores first) and the highest carbonate rock cliff in North America. Did we mention the overall height difference from BASE jump exit point to landing zone is an impressive 3,300 feet?

The peak requires a long drive along U.S. Route 50 until you’re over an hour west of Delta—far enough away from town that getting hurt is not an option. Once you arrive at the peak’s base, it’s a 3- to 4-hour hike to the exit point. Prefer not to hike? You can always ascend via one of the multi-pitch climbing routes or drop in via helicopter.

Notch Peak is not for the faint of heart nor the amateur, which makes it ideal as JUMP’s inaugural exit point. Here are a few more reasons why we put it first on the list:

  • The nearest exit may be behind you. Notch Peak has four exit points and two main landing zones, giving you multiple opportunities to pick a favorite.
  • Trees as old as time. Ancient bristlecone pines grow on the mountain—some over 4,000 years old.
  • Not for the faint of heart. Pro Marshall Miller had a close encounter with the west wall, which resulted in several broken bones and a night spent on the cliff before paramedics rescued him. Local pros share an admiration for this mountain because of their memories or the memories of those who lost their life trying to fly it.
  • You always remember your first. Local pro Hartman Rector’s first wingsuit flight was off the South Wall: “It’s sort of like an unknown Yosemite out there in the desert. There isn’t anything like it for miles and miles around.”

The Notch Peak Exit Point is the first in a series of hyper-detailed 3D landscapes that include some of the world’s most breathtaking BASE jumps. Experience Notch Peak and you’ll experience unparalleled hyperreality and multisensory stimulation. Don’t believe us? Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect.
